I’d been dreaming of two sweet little vintage twin size beds for the boys’ room ever since I found out that we were going to be a family with three kiddos. I could just picture their beds tucked under the slanted walls and ceiling with the large window that has the most amazing view of the river in between them. When the family that lived here in the 1960s-1980s came to visit and tour the house, they shared that they had twin beds in those exact same spots when they were growing up! It’s just perfect. There was just one tiny detail. I needed to find matching twin beds!
Finding one antique twin size bed frame was not a problem. When I would search on Craigslist or at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore I would find tons of them! The issue was finding two matching twin beds. Occasionally I would spot a pair on Craigslist, but they were always too expensive, or just not special enough. I wanted something unique, full of character and charm, and sturdy enough to stand up to life with kiddos. We don’t do delicate and breakable in our house!
Given the challenge of wanting two identical vintage beds, I knew I needed to start looking early, so I began keeping an eye out even while I was still pregnant with our third. Once our youngest learned how to climb out of his crib, I really started getting serious about my search! I looked every few days on Craigslist, but I was coming up empty. Once we started working on the Clown Room to turn that into our daughter’s room, I knew we had to find beds for the boys before that project was completed. So, I broadened my search to include new bed frames that were designed in an antique style. Friends, I’ve been buying vintage furniture for so long, I swear I don’t know how to even pay full price for retail anymore! While I found lots of styles that I liked online, I was horrified by the regular retail prices of new twin beds. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy them.
Over the holiday break I decided I just needed to make a decision and move forward. I found a few brand new beds online and sent the links to my husband to get his opinion on his favorite style and price. Then with a sigh, I switched over to Facebook to do some mindless scrolling while I tried to talk myself into paying full retail price. After all, I’d been searching for over two years for matching antique twin beds. At some point I just had to admit to myself that I might not find exactly what I wanted. There were certainly worse problems to have in life.
I had just about talked myself into ordering the two new beds online when, on a whim, I clicked on Facebook Marketplace. I typed in “twin beds” and gasped when these two beds showed up!
They were everything I’d ever hoped for and more! The design literally took my breath away. The curved footboard was absolutely dreamy! I saw that the seller had posted them just a few hours before. My fingers flew across the keyboard as I sent her a message, hoping I wasn’t too late. She responded quickly, which I have discovered is one of my favorite aspects of Facebook Marketplace. We messaged back and forth and she answered all my questions and confirmed that the bed frames were, indeed, vintage. They had belonged to her father-in-law growing up, and he had said they were at least from the early 1940’s, maybe a little older. Perfect! We agreed on a price and arranged for me to pick them up the next evening.
Friends, I’m in love with these beds! They are so sturdy and the design is gorgeous. They steal my heart every time I look at them! We are so lucky to have these beds too. The seller told me that after I messaged her and confirmed that I’d buy them, she had at least ten more people send messages that they were interested in the beds too. And I understand why. I’ve been searching for beautiful matching vintage beds for years! I can’t believe my good luck!
Sometimes it’s worth the wait and the all effort to find those perfect pieces that just thrill your soul! And it can also take a little luck to find the pieces of your dreams. But when it works out, oh my goodness, it is a match made in heaven! I’m telling you, friends, these beds were just meant to come live in our little castle. Happiness!
Have a beautiful day!
