Friends, when you are lucky enough to fix up an old house with the help of your family and friends, you literally surround yourself with love. Everywhere you look in your home you are reminded of the people in your life who are the most important to you. People who would drop everything to come and help when you have a plumbing emergency, people who would give up an afternoon or weekend to help you paint, and people who would lend you their truck, trailer, or muscles when you find another very heavy vintage treasure online.
Every room in our house reminds me of someone. People help us with our home improvement projects because they love us, and we try and do the same for them. I remember each and every person who has graciously donated their time and talents to help us make our dream of restoring this beautiful old house come true. I can tell you exactly who lifted my great-grandparents’ piano off the moving truck, which rooms each of our family members helped paint, the family and friends who helped me hang the pictures on my gallery wall (much to my grateful husband’s relief), and the many projects my father-in-law has done with us. We are so incredibly blessed.
Old houses are truly a labor of love. They take a tremendous amount of work, time, and money. This was one of those weeks that really hit us hard, and I found myself wondering for a split second why we took on such a challenge at this stage in life. But then I looked around at all that we have and how far we’ve come, and it was so comforting to realize that we are not alone in this adventure. We made this move so that we could live closer to our families, and despite the hurdles that our old house threw at us this week, we don’t regret it. We are so lucky.
And so I just want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you to those of you in our lives who give so graciously of your time and energy. We couldn’t do this without you, and we are so grateful!
And as we celebrate Father’s Day, I just want to say a special thank you to the men in my life. To my Grandpa, my Dad, my Father-in-law, and especially my Husband, thank you. Thank you for your love, your patience, your integrity and character, your work ethic, and your dedication to your family. We love you!
With Love,
Sandy
