Friends, I’ve just recently celebrated my birthday, and it got me thinking about age and beauty. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that according to the mathematical rules for rounding that I teach my elementary school students, I’m supposed to round UP now that there is a five in the ones place value, and that means the big 4-0 is coming. Maybe because I ran into the sister of one of my college friends who had lived on my hall during my freshman year, and then realized that we had lived in that dorm seventeen years ago (almost half my lifetime ago.) I’m not kidding when I say that I have my calculator out as I type this, because I simply cannot believe the math! Maybe because having three kids so close together has made me tired in a way that I had never experienced before.
Whatever the reason, I decided to give myself a little makeover for my birthday. Because it’s fun to try new things! I bought some new makeup and a few cute outfits, and I’m really enjoying embracing this mini makeover. And friends, I can’t wait to share my newest tip with you that instantly made me look ten years younger.
It wasn’t expensive, it didn’t take a lot of time, and it was so easy to do.
Here is my tip:
- Go to a yard sale.
- Find a high school sweatshirt that proudly proclaims that you graduated as part of a class that was ten years after yours.
- Debate buying the sweatshirt. After all, you didn’t graduate in 2011. You are not twenty-five. It just feels weird, like false advertising, or like you’re trying too hard. Really, really hard.
- Go home without the sweatshirt, congratulating yourself for staying strong, even though it was a cute and super soft shirt. You have standards and dignity that clearly come with age.
- Stare at your husband with mild annoyance when he asks you to help with yard work. Realize that yard work would be much more enjoyable in a cute and super soft sweatshirt.
- Get in your minivan and drive back to the yard sale to purchase the super soft sweatshirt for 75Β’. Feel incredibly proud of yourself for buying such a fabulous item for less than a dollar. You are so smart with money! Your wisdom and financial savviness have clearly come with age.
- Wear your new-to-you sweatshirt with pride as you do yard work (and take the kids into town to get ice cream, and take pictures to send to your sisters, cousins, friends, and co-workers.) You feel fabulous in your super soft sweatshirt, and you just know the teenagers working at the ice cream shop are marveling at how accomplished you are since you appear so young. Plus, you have enough cash left over from the yard sale to pay for your ice cream. You are clearly winning at life!
Happy yard saling, friends! May you find good deals, soft sweatshirts, and delicious ice cream.
Have a beautiful day!
Sandy
